Through engaging theoretical modules, knowledge checks, and practical reflection exercises, you will learn how to apply regulatory requirements and safe working practices in real-world situations.

The goal

After completing the course, you will have an understanding of the chemical hazards that may be present in the workplace and the protective measures required to perform your work safely in accordance with applicable regulations. The practical exercises in the course are based on the chemicals used in your own workplace, making the learning directly relevant to your daily work.

The course is designed for individuals involved in managing or working with chemical hazards in the workplace, including employees, employers, construction health and safety coordinators, project owners, installers, designers, manufacturers, safety representatives, and self-employed workers.

The topics covered

Chemical hazards present in your organisation must be identified, documented, and maintained in an inventory, including Safety Data Sheets (SDSs). The risks associated with these hazards must be assessed and appropriate control measures implemented.

In this course, you will gain knowledge of the chemical hazards that may occur in the workplace, the risks associated with working with hazardous substances, and the protective measures required to perform your work safely, including labelling, signage, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

You will also learn about the laws and regulations governing the use and handling of hazardous chemicals, how to carry out risk assessments, where to find reliable information, which documents are essential for safe chemical management, and the relevant medical surveillance requirements.
