ATEX - basic
An explosion can sometimes occur without warning, and the sequence of events unfolds very quickly. The course provides you with the knowledge and skills you need to prevent explosions and protect yourself and others from injury.
Upon passing the final exam, you will receive a course certificate valid for 5 years.
ATEX is an abbreviation of the French term "Atmosphères Explosibles" (Explosive Atmospheres) and refers to two EU directives designed to protect people and property from explosions in potentially explosive environments.
ATEX - Basic, is an online course that allows you to pause and resume at your convenience, enabling you to fit the training into your schedule. The course is video-based, illustrating scenarios and events rather than relying solely on text. This approach makes the training accessible regardless of reading habits, reading and writing difficulties, or if Swedish is your second language.
The goal
After completing the course, you will have gained the essential knowledge required to recognize risks in explosive environments. You will be familiar with the safety requirements that apply when working in hazardous areas with explosive atmospheres. You will also be able to interpret documentation and understand which types of equipment are suitable for use in EX environments, enabling you to perform inspections and maintenance safely.
The target group
Operational and maintenance personnel, as well as technicians, engineers, supervisors, and consultants working in or about to start working in areas with explosive atmospheres.
The topics covered
The course provides solid knowledge about the safety requirements that apply when working in hazardous areas with explosive atmospheres. We cover the relevant regulations and directives, as well as how you can meet these requirements by following standards and guidelines. Basic knowledge of:
- Flammable materials
- Ignition sources – the five most common types
- Zone classifications, zoning, explosion protection documents
- What you need to know before entering an explosive area
- Marking of Ex equipment – how to read it & additional EU requirements
- Protective measures – how equipment is made safe to use
- Work permits
- Selection of motors for explosive areas
- Inspection and maintenance
