First aid for electrical accidents

Most electrical accidents end without serious consequences, but electrical current passing through the body can lead to severe or life-threatening injuries. This course gives you an understanding of the risks and the confidence to act correctly if an electrical accident occurs.

The goal

The aim of the course is for participants to increase their knowledge of first aid for electrical injuries so that they know how to act in an accident situation.

The target group

Persons who work on and maintain electrical installations, or find themselves in situations involving electrical hazards.

The topics covered

The body conducts electricity well, and multiple organs can be damaged. Electrical accidents can cause heart rhythm disturbances and even cardiac arrest—sometimes occurring several hours after the incident. Voltages as low as 50 volts can trigger cardiac arrest.

The course follows international and national first aid guidelines from the Swedish Resuscitation Council, as well as the National Electrical Safety Board’s guidance regarding electrical accidents.
