New course for safe dead working in Distribution networks

We are launching the eLearning course Dead Working - Distribution to address a clear need for increased safety in electrical network operations.

The new course has been developed in close collaboration with industry professionals and covers key risks associated with working in both low-voltage and high-voltage installations. It explains why accidents often occur during seemingly simple tasks and provides a clear overview of practical risk factors that may arise in the field. Less visible hazards, such as induction and electrical influence, are also covered to provide a comprehensive understanding of electrical safety in distribution networks.

"This is important knowledge that strengthens the safety culture. It is just as relevant for those performing the work as it is for those planning and supervising it. When more people follow the same procedures and understand why they are necessary, the conditions for working safely every time improve significantly," says Henrik Blomstedt, Product Developer, Electrical Safety at Trainor.

From rules to safe working practices

The course provides a practical understanding of how the five safety rules defined in SS-EN 50110-1 become part of everyday work practices, from disconnecting and securing against reconnection, to verifying absence of voltage, earthing and short-circuiting, equipotential bonding, and protection against adjacent live parts.

The course connects regulatory requirements with real-world work situations, making it easy to see how the knowledge can be applied in daily operations.

For those who perform and plan the work

The aim of the course is to reduce incidents and accidents through increased awareness and more consistent working practices. It also helps create better conditions for safe work, both in execution and planning, where the right priorities regarding time, equipment, and work methods are essential.

The course is intended for professionals working in power distribution, including distribution electricians, overhead line workers, contractors, operations and maintenance personnel, as well as supervisors and project managers.

Upon completion, participants will be able to apply the dead working method in accordance with SS-EN 50110-1 Operation of Electrical Installations.
