Alarm electricians and safety electricians are a broad education. Depending on where you work, you may have different job titles. For example, telecommunications technicians, service and installation electricians, cable technicians, broadband fitters, telecom fitters and more. Working as a telecommunications technician can include installing computer and telecommunications equipment, burglary and fire alarms or access control systems.

It can also be about, for example, pulling cables and inserting cable TV networks. Installation of data and telecommunications networks in offices and industries can also be included in the job, as well as building data networks for data, media and image transmission. In some cases, the work also includes installing facilities for air and ship navigation.

There is a great breadth of tasks within the profession. Therefore, it is important that you have good basic knowledge of how to do electrical installations. The job can also include commissioning and programming of, for example, alarms and other installations. In other words, the job can include everything from cabling to programming.

Part of the work involves servicing and repairing installed installations such as automatic alarms, TV antennas or telephone networks. Then it is important to find out what is wrong by talking to the customer, examining and making measurements with different measuring instruments. When the fault is located, it is rectified and the equipment is set up and tested.

An alarm installer, or alarm electrician and security electrician, installs fire alarms, burglar alarms, TV surveillance systems, access control systems and other safety equipment. They work with most things from planning to assembly, commissioning and technical description of the installation. They also service alarm systems. The work may also include training for the users of the alarm systems. It is therefore important to have knowledge of the laws and regulations that regulate the work with alarms.
