What does an automation electrician do?

Automation technology is a general term. It happens that you are also called control and regulation technicians. If the work is performed in a process industry, you can also be called an instrument technician. You can also be employed as a maintenance technician or as a service technician in the engineering industry.

An automation electrician does not necessarily have to work in industry but can also work in e.g. property automation, sales of automation equipment, service / consulting companies in automation.

Mätteknik

Common tasks:

  • Installation, configuration and commissioning of automation systems
  • Programming of process control systems and machine control systems
  • Troubleshooting, service and maintenance of control and regulation equipment
  • Development tasks and develop new technical solutions. This may involve the improvement of existing facilities or the development of new facilities
  • Employed by companies that manufacture automated plants or robots and handle installation and service for customers. They can also be employed by service companies that handle the service of the facilities

Because the tasks are varied, an automation technician needs knowledge of different types of automation, such as control technology, control technology and electronics and mechatronics, as well as computer technology and IT.

Prior education

Approved Compulsory Education. We also recommend passing the first courses in Swedish, English and Mathematics from Upper Secondary Education.

Implementation

If you complete the entire program, it totals 1500 credits, including the municipal adult education project (Komvuxarbete).

You will alternate between studying our online courses remotely and attending the school in Sundsvall or Solna. The program includes 15% workplace-based learning (WBL).

We have our own web-based education portal, where you can access your courses with study schedules and information on the goals and requirements needed to pass. The education portal also provides support and additional information you need during your studies.

In the program, you will use various simulation programs, so you must have access to a computer (PC) with a Windows operating system.
