EnglishStarting December 1, 2025, the legal requirement for personal certification of boiler operators in categories 1-4 will take effect in accordance with AFS 2017:3. Consequently, the need for training for boiler operators has increased. In most cases, training is required for the boiler operator to pass the certification.
Please note that on May 30, 2022, the Swedish Work Environment Authority postponed the certification requirement by 3 years. The knowledge requirement according to AFS 2017:3 remains in place. The new start date for personal certification is December 1, 2025.
Although the requirements for personal certification have been postponed, the knowledge requirements remain. Due to AFS 2017:3, the need for training for boiler operators has increased.
Trained boiler operators minimize the risks of personal injuries and production downtime. If the regulations are not followed, employers may be required to pay penalty fees.
When you book an instructor-led training, whether it is an open course or a company-based training at your location, there is an opportunity to take the certification exam in conjunction with the course. The certification exam is conducted in collaboration with the certification body RISE.

Note: On May 30, 2022, the Swedish Work Environment Authority announced that the requirement for personal certification for operators of boilers in categories 1 to 4 will come into effect on December 1, 2025. Through the certification body RISE, you can take the certification exam during your training session with Trainor. The certification is issued after the theoretical exam. The employer must also ensure that the boiler operator has the knowledge and skills required to operate the specific boiler. Trainor provides the opportunity to take the certification exam in conjunction with all instructor-led courses. Although it is not mandatory to attend a course to obtain the certificate, the exam reflects the high knowledge requirements set by the Swedish Work Environment Authority, and we recommend taking the preparatory courses.
The exam is conducted on Trainor's tablets and lasts for two hours. To pass the certification, you need at least 70% of the total questions correct, and at least 50% correct in each area the exam covers.
How to get your certificate: Upon passing the exam, you can apply for certification with the certifying body RISE. The application fee is 3,000 SEK excluding VAT. Each subsequent year, there is an additional fee of 950 SEK excluding VAT to maintain the certification. The application for certification must be submitted to RISE within 6 months of the exam date.
